SSYC Family and Community Services

In partnership with the United Way of Greater Union County, SSYC is leading an Out of School Youth Employment and Training Program. We are collaborating with the City of Plainfield Police Division Youth Bureau to identify at-risk youth ages 16-24 who are not in school.

We provide comprehensive leadership training, soft job skills and links to employers in the community. SSYC is uniquely positioned to offer this program because, where possible, we introduce the youth to early childhood education as a potential career path. We work closely with a job developer who finds work sites for our participants.

Those interested in the early childhood field are assisted in securing their Child Development Associates Degree through 4C’s of Union County.

Last year, one of our students completed their training with 4C’s and is currently completing the necessary intern hours with us at SSYC. Once completed, she will be able to secure employment in an early childhood center as a Teacher Assistant, making $15-$18 per hour.

The program provides a working stipend to all employers for hiring youth. The goal is to insure that our youth are given meaningful work experience that will enable them to continue working or secure additional employment. This program is another vital component of Pathways to Stabilization and is stimulating growth through job training.
